When Sussex CCC's landlord called time on the Brunswick Ground by the sea a new home was required. A ten-acre barley field 'between Mr Rigden's farm and the railway station at Cliftonville' proved to be the answer and nine months later WG Grace was at the wicket.
Over the next 150 years the Eaton Road ground has seen it all. Two world wars, great cricket, great players and great days - all to a calm backdrop of serene gentility. Even a County Championship eventually came to Hove, and then two more.
And here are all the details - the trials, the tribulations and the triumphs. Punctuated by stirring photographs, the full story is told in part one. In part two it's the turn of spectators, players, journalists, administrators and fans to tell of what the ground means to them and how it has influenced their lives. These twenty-four men and women provide a memorable oral backdrop to a ground that holds a place in their collective hearts.
